Globe Strengthens Global Partnerships to Combat Online Scams at GASS Asia 2025

Radyo Bogaz | MANILA, Philippines – As online scams and digital fraud rise into one of the most urgent global threats, Globe Telecom has reinforced its commitment to protecting Filipinos and businesses by joining forces with international partners at the Global Anti-Scam Summit (GASS) Asia 2025.

In the Philippines alone, one in three citizens has been targeted by scams in the past year, with losses amounting to USD 8.1 billion, or 1.9% of the country’s GDP. Despite the alarming figures, two-thirds of victims remain silent, leaving fraud syndicates unchecked and emboldened.

The two-day summit, which brought together more than 1,000 global stakeholders from governments, regulators, financial institutions, technology providers, and civil society, served as a platform to exchange strategies that can match the growing speed and sophistication of scams.

Globe Calls for a United Front Against Fraud

Speaking at the event, Derick Adil, Globe Head of AI and Privacy Governance and Co-chair of the Global Anti-Scam Alliance (GASA) Philippine Chapter, emphasized the urgency of collaboration:

“Fraud today moves at digital speed, exploiting new technologies like AI to deceive people faster than ever. We have proven that practical interventions can make a real difference, from removing links in SMS advisories, to blocking over 9 billion scam messages before they reach our customers. But these efforts must go beyond one country or one telco. Scams don’t stop at borders, and neither should our defenses. To turn every scam attempt into a dead end, we must build a united front of governments, industry, and communities.”

Digital Tools and Partnerships Driving Scam Prevention

Adil showcased Globe’s StopSpam portal and the newly launched SMS Scam Shield feature on the GlobeOne app for Android users. The tool, free for all subscribers, automatically filters phishing messages once permissions are granted, further fortifying users against text-based scams.

Globe also presented its data-sharing framework with banks, designed to preempt fraud before it reaches customers, as well as its close coordination with regulators and law enforcement to dismantle large-scale scam operations. The company underscored the importance of cross-border intelligence sharing and public education campaigns to restore trust in digital ecosystems.

Philippine Government and Industry Collaboration

On the sidelines of the summit, Globe engaged with Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) Undersecretary Alexander Aboy, who participated as a panelist. Discussions centered on strengthening defenses against cybercrime and online fraud, including enhanced cooperation on cross-border investigations.

Meanwhile, Globe Business VP for Business Development and Sales, Glenn Estrella, highlighted the growing threat to enterprises:

Globe’s leadership in the fight against fraud has been recognized globally with its appointment as Chair of the GASA Philippines Chapter. By 2026, the chapter aims to expand public education initiatives, activate intelligence-sharing mechanisms, and collaborate with international GASA chapters on joint campaigns against cross-border scams.

The company also continues to invest in digital literacy and cyber safety education, including programs such as Digital Thumbprint Program (DTP), Senior Digizen, and Safe Space: A Kid’s Guide to Data Privacy, equipping communities with the knowledge to protect themselves online.
